THE INTERIOR DESIGNERS TIPS:
3 STYLES TO BE INSPIRED BY WHEN CHOOSING A SOFA
Jannice Wikstrand is the interior designer and feng shui expert behind the blog Add Simplicity. Here’s her thoughts about three different styles and what to keep in mind when choosing colors, materials and proportions on your sofa.
“In general, one can say that a Howard model helps to create a classic style. The small paws with wheels forward are a timeless sign. Depending on the color you choose on your sofa, the sofa is experienced more or less classically. A basic color like beige is perceived, for example, more classic than one in pink, which flirts more with our contemporary and what is trendy now. The interaction between the chosen color and the sofa's model is important for the whole. ”
“The modern style is achieved with simple and clean shapes. A straight, angular sofa makes the impression strict and is perceived as modern and uncomplicated. When choosing an angular sofa, like Palmdale below, it’s important to add items with soft silhouettes to achieve harmony in the room. In the picture below, for example, the round table helps to create a softer impression. If you on the other hand choose a coffee table in angular design, it may be enough to have a large, bouquet of flowers in a round vase on the table to create harmony. ”
"The sofa that I have in my studio, Devon, gives a modern impression but the choice of color is very classic. A greige sofa in this design will never get out of style. In the foto below Devon is styled with a sharp, angular table but the impressions softens by the two rounded armchairs in an accent color.”
"If you want to create an eye-catching style that breathes decadence, hotel luxury and exclusivity, then just to go all in on everything. The design can be generous, the material luxurious like velvet and the color powerful - the more colors, the more magnificent it becomes. If you would rather go for basic colors like gray and beige the style becomes more classic but the velvet material still gives that luxurious touch.”
